Personal sensory-deprivation tank. Not a commercial facility. All wetted parts: plastic, titanium, or marine epoxy — no carbon steel, no standard brass, no household silicone as the only barrier.
Numbers already checked
- Volume at 96 × 48 × 10 in~200 gal
- Salt at ~4.4 lb/gal~880 lb for SG 1.27
- Solution + occupantPlan 2,700 lb
- Floor load over 32 sq ft~80 psf — above typical live load
- Steady heat loss (insulated)~400 BTU/h; 2000 W for recovery
- Pump200 gal × 4 / 25 min ≈ 32 GPM peak; 20 GPM if longer
Hand to the engineer
- Check floor / joist / slab for 80+ psf plus point loads at bulkheads.
- Specify liner (epoxy system, thickness, corner radii).
- Specify pump NPSH, heater metallurgy, UV sizing.
- Electrical one-line with GFCI and bonding.
- Condensation / vapor barrier so the wood shell does not rot.
Wall stack is drawn to the 4 in envelope (104 × 56 outer, 96 × 48 inner). 2x4 depth vs that envelope is for the engineer to resolve. Floor joists span the short direction at 12 in OC.
